Bengal Monitor Lizard Gang-Raped, Four Accused Arrested

April 14,2022(New Delhi): Four hunters have been booked for allegedly raping a Bengal monitor lizard in the Sahydari Tiger Reserve near Gothane village in Maharashtra. The accused, identified as hunters, allegedly entered the core zone of Sahyadri Tiger Reserve in the Gabha area at Gothane and committed the heinous crime.

They have been identified as Sandeep Tukram, Pawar Mangesh, Janardhan Kamtekar and Akshay Sunil. The Maharashtra Forest Department checked the mobile phone of the accused and came to know about the incident.
During the investigation, the officials found the recording of the act which showed the accused allegedly gang-raping the monitor lizard. Their act was also recorded in a mobile phone of one of the accused persons,” he said.

“We have recovered all the related evidence from the accused and they were granted forest department custody initially, but are out on bail now,” the forest official said.
They have been asked to mark their presence before the forest officer, who is probing the case, every Monday, he said.
