Apple unveiled the first public beta of iOS 26.2, providing iPhone users and tech enthusiasts with an opportunity to explore new features. This update expands upon the overarching iOS 26 design and introduces modifications to Sleep Score, the lock screen interface, core applications, and other areas. The primary focus of this version is on enhancing design aesthetics, optimizing app functionality, and granting users greater control before the final update is released in December.
The recent updates to the Health app have altered the scoring range for Sleep Score tracking. The category previously labeled ‘Excellent’ has been renamed ‘Very High’. To achieve the top level, users now need a score between 96 and 100. Additionally, the thresholds for other categories have been revised. These changes were made in response to feedback suggesting that the previous labels were too broad and overly positive.
Interface customization has taken a significant step forward with the introduction of a slider for the Lock Screen clock. This new feature enables users to adjust the transparency of the clock widget, allowing them to choose from three options: clear, frosted, or solid. The solid option is particularly beneficial for users who prefer a completely opaque appearance.
Major built-in apps also saw improvements. For instance, Apple Podcasts now uses AI to automatically generate episode chapters and provide links to related podcasts. Additionally, it organizes show links for easier access. These developments align with Apple’s goal of creating more intelligent podcast experiences.
The Apple News app underwent a layout change that makes popular categories like sports, politics, business, and food easily accessible through buttons, simplifying navigation.
AirPods Live Translation will expand to European Union countries, coinciding with the full release of iOS 26.2 later this year. Additionally, the update introduces enhanced reminders, allowing users to set alarms for urgent reminders and even bypass Focus modes to prioritize notifications.
Beneath the surface, the beta version unveils references to upcoming features, including an extended AirDrop sharing window (up to 30 days via PIN) and the development of a new ‘Apple Creator Studio’ tool bundle for professional users.
iOS 26.2 will be available for all iPhones that are compatible with iOS 26. The official launch is expected in December 2025. Until then, users able to join the public beta can test early, though they should expect some bugs and unfinished features inherent in pre-release software.
Overall, the update emphasizes visual Apple is letting users preview the next step in the iPhone experience ahead of its full release, with now available refinement, smarter app features, and deeper customization.
