Adelaide Strikers Jake Weatherald and Ben Laughlin Takes a Blinder in BBL

The Adelaide Strikers secured a home Big Bash League semi-final against the Melbourne Renegades, but their emphatic 26-run win will forever be remembered for “the catch”.

Big Bash League often produces some of the most stunning catches but on Monday, efforts of Jake Weatherald left everyone stunned as he took a blinder to dismiss Dwayne Bravo.

Bravo was batting on 4 for the Melbourne Renegades, when he hit one in the air, the ball seemed to be going all the way for a six but Ben Laughlin, running from long off flicked it at full tilt.

It seemed that he had saved a six but Weatherald, who was running in from sweeper cover dived to his left to complete a monumental team effort.

The catch was crucial in the context of the game as that wicket put the brake on Renegades chase and they were restricted to 147/7, chasing 174 to win.

With this victory, the Strikers also sealed a spot in the BBL semi-finals.

Later on, talking about the catch, Weatherald said, “I couldn’t believe it. I thought I was just a bystander and then I thought maybe I was in the game. I chucked a bit of mayo in the end with the little bit of a dive just to get the crowd up,”

The player of the match bludgeoned five sixes and four fours in a superb 68 from 36 balls.

He combined with Head for a pivotal 88-run partnership before the Strikers skipper departed, bowled by former Striker Kieron Pollard, with his 58 from 47 deliveries including four fours and two sixes.
