A strong woman builds her own world: Shaifali chopped her hair to get trained in boy’s cricket academy
A strong woman builds her own world, love herself, be herself and shine amongst those who never believed she could. The 15-year-old batswoman, who became the youngest T20 debutant for the Indian women’s cricket team, chopped her hair on the instructions of her cricket-mad father, Sanjeev Verma, after every cricket academy in Haryana’s Rohtak district refused her admission because she is women and today Shafali’s contribution over South Africa in Surat make India proud.
A 15-year-old batsman Shaifali, who was the youngest of the Indian women’s cricket team, started taking cricket training as a boy, as her city Haryana did not have any women cricket academy. After being rejected from all the academy her father Sanjeev Verma decides to cut her hairs and took her to an academy and got her admitted as a boy.
According to the Times of India, Sanjeev, the father of Shaifali, who runs a jewellery shop in Rohtak, said, “No one wanted to take my daughter because there was not a single academy for girls in Rohtak. I urged them a lot to get my daughter involved to train with them, but nobody did.”
While playing with the boy’s team her neighbours and relatives use to taunt her father and says that your girl plays with boys, girls have no future in cricket, but today the same people are not tired of praising
Shaifali scored 46 off 33 balls against South Africa on Tuesday. However, she was able to play only 4 balls in her debut match. Shaifali got a chance to play in the Indian team when he scored 1923 runs in the domestic season, which included six centuries and three half-centuries.
