A mother-daughter duo living off the streets in the national capital were allegedly raped by two drunk men

A 35-year-old ragpicker and her 18-year-old daughter, who are specially-abled, were allegedly raped by two drunk men in Delhi on the intervening night of December 29 and 30.

In the National Capital, yet another incident of sexual assault came in front. Two drunk men allegedly raped a mother-daughter duo living off the national capital streets on the night of December 30. And What is more shocking is that a local, instead of helping the two women, recorded a shameful incident and circulated it on social media platforms. The person who filmed the incident was also traced and arrested.

Taking a review of the viral video, police officials captured the two suspects named Amit, a resident of Wazirpur, and Sonu, a resident of Jahangirpuri. 

The woman’s husband had abandoned her during the lockdown period.

Police examined CCTV footage, collected records from locals, conducted inquiries everywhere from bus stops to metro stations and shelter homes to trace the affected mother-daughter duo. 

The inquires revealed that the woman, aged 35 years, and her daughter, who is around 18 years old and are specially-abled, are rag pickers.

Drunk men outrage the took advantage of the duo.

On the night of December 30, the two drunk suspects spotted them and began misbehaving with the duo. When the woman countered, one of the two threatened to kill her with a brick in his hand. Hearing the noise, a local woke up, and instead of rescuing the women, he filmed the whole incident, and later, he shared the video on social media. The terrified woman pleads that he spares them, but the suspect shamelessly continues to threaten her.

Statements of the survivors – mother, aged around 35 years, and her daughter, aged approximately 18 years, were recorded. Their medical examination has been conducted whereby they have alleged about having been outraged by two unknown persons.

A case has been registered under IPC sections 376 (rape), 354 (unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 509 (intending to insult the modesty of any woman), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
