Maha Navami, the ninth day of the Navratri festival, was celebrated across India on Wednesday, marking the worship of Maa Siddhidatri. The day is considered highly auspicious by millions of devotees who participate in prayers, fasting, and traditional rituals at homes and temples nationwide.
Navratri, one of Hinduism’s most prominent festivals, spans nine nights and honors the divine feminine in different manifestations. The ninth day, known as Maha Navami, is dedicated to Maa Siddhidatri, the goddess associated with the fulfillment of spiritual aspirations and the bestowal of supernatural abilities called ‘siddhis’.
In cities and towns, crowds gathered to offer floral arrangements, sweets, and prayers to the goddess. Sacred fire rituals and chanting of mantras such as “Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah” were observed at significant temples. Many families also conducted Kumari Puja, worshipping young girls as representations of divine purity and energy.
Religious leaders emphasized the importance of Maa Siddhidatri’s story in Hindu tradition.
Navratri will conclude with Vijayadashami, celebrated as Dussehra, signifying the victory of good over evil.
