By Anshika Khera

Mamata Banerjee got angry when Delhi police in a letter called Bengali a Bangladeshi language. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of Bengal , described the August 3 letter by the Delhi police as Scandalous, insulting, Anti-national and unconstitutional as it called Bengali a Bangladeshi language.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya reacted and accused Mamata Banerjee of spreading wrong information for ‘vote-bank politics’. He called her X post a badly scripted political stunt. The police had written to Banga Bhawan , West Bengal’s State Bank house in New Delhi , seeking assistance with translating documents written in Bangladeshi language for eight individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. HT has not verified the authenticity of the letter yet.
TMC national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee demanded an apology from home minister Amit Shah, as Delhi police falls under his ministry. The Communist party of India also posted on X that Bengali is spoken by millions in India but Delhi police thinks Bengali= Bangladeshi.
Singer Surojit Chatterjee wrote , as quoted, “Bangla referred to as Bangladeshi language…Exactly the kind of ignorance i expect from the people responsible…Not surprised at all.” But Samik Bhattacharya, the west Bengal BJP President, in turn accused the TMC of resorting to “fear-mongering” tactics for shielding illegal immigrants.
