Chatinay Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, was arrested by the ED

The Enforcement Directorate(ED) arrested Chaitnya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, on Friday 18 July, on his birthday. He has been arrested in a money laundering case connected with the Kathik Sarab scam. According to the reports of India Today, a large number of forces have been deployed outside the house of Bhupesh Baghel. After Chaitnya Baghel was taken into custody, Congress workers and police officials were also beaten up and Congress workers also tried to stop the ED vehicles. The ED team reached at Chatniya’s Bhilai Aawas on Friday morning at around 6:30 pm in 3 cars.

The search of his house was started under the security cover of CRPF. Chatniya lives in this house with his parents. Bhupesh Baghel gave information about this matter by posting on the social media platform X, he wrote that ED has come, today 18th July is the last day of Vidhan Sabha session, the issue of trees being cut in Tamnaar for Aadani was to be raised today, Sir has sent ED to Bhilai Aawas. In the second post, Bhupesh Baghel wrote that the kind of birthday gift that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah give, no one else in any democracy of the world can give such gift. On my birthday, both the supreme leader had sent ED to my advisor and 2 officers’ house. And now on my son Chatinay’s birthday, ED team is raiding my house, thanks for this gift, I will remember it.

It is a prop that under the liquor scam, the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh embezzled Rs 2,161 crore between 2019 and 2023. According to the Ed, the then Minister of State for Public Prosecution Kawasi Lakhma was given a huge amount every month from the earnings from this alleged scam. According to the allegations, bribe was taken in the form of cash commission from the liquor manufacturing companies on purchasing the liquor. This liquor was provided by Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation Limited (CSMCL). Raw desi liquor was sold from the government shops of the state without any record. The government did not get even a single rupee from this sale. It is alleged that all the money went into the pockets of the syndicates. After taking bribe from distillers, they were given fixed market share so that they could make cartels in one go, and also huge amount was collected from SL10 licence holders in exchange for giving entry into desi liquor market. In this case, ED has so far attached property worth Rs. 205 crore.
