  • What Held It Back:
Minimal marketing, limited international release, and lack of subtitle/localization push.

  • Why It Had Potential:
A powerful diaspora narrative, emotionally resonant with NRIs and audiences who enjoy socially conscious storytelling.
  • Global Appeal:
Perfect for fans of heartfelt dramas like The Pursuit of Happyness. Shah Rukh Khan delivered one of his most nuanced performances.
  • What Held It Back:
Released too early — before the rise of streaming platforms and the global SRK fandom explosion.

3. Anbe Sivam (2003)

  • Why It Had Potential:
Kamal Haasan’s philosophical drama about humanity, communism, and love for fellow man — decades ahead of its time.

Poor box office performance in India at release and no international strategy whatsoever.

The market is still fresh and we still have some high hopes from Ramayan.
