3-Day Sports Festival Begins in Patna on National Sports Day

Patna is hosting a three-day sports festival from August 29 to 31 to mark National Sports Day. The event is organised by the district sports office and more than 2,500 participants are expected to take part.

The festival started on Friday at Khel Bhawan with an oath ceremony and tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand whose birthday is celebrated as National Sports Day. On the first day a 5 km run was organised along with speech and debate competitions for students. A live screening of the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 match was also shown on LED screens.
The second day August 30 is being celebrated as Day of Fitness at the Patliputra Sports Complex. Events like kabaddi, basketball, tug of war, yoga, pito (traditional game) and short sprints are taking place. For senior citizens special activities like chess, yoga, brisk walk, debate and even musical chairs have been included.

On the final day August 31 a cycling rally named Sunday on Cycle will be held. The rally will start from Khel Bhawan, cover main routes of Patna and return back.
District Sports Officer Om Prakash said the aim of this festival is to spread fitness awareness and bring people of all ages closer to sports. A special selfie point has also been created for visitors.
