A tragic explosion occurred at Srinagar’s Nowgam Police Station, resulting in the loss of nine lives due to an unfortunate mishap involving ammonium nitrate.

A massive explosion occurred at Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on November 14, 2025. The explosion resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to 29 others. The incident took place during the examination of 2,900 kilograms of seized ammonium nitrate, which was linked to a terror probe originating from Faridabad, Haryana.

The blast that destroyed the station and damaged nearby structures involved a forensics team, police personnel, and a tehsildar. Authorities confirmed that it was an accident, not a terror attack.

Rescue teams evacuated the injured individuals to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. Investigations are currently underway to examine the handling protocols.
