Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday, May 7, 2026. This follows the ongoing ‘Sarke Chunar’ controversy. Like co-star Sanjay Dutt, Fatehi submitted a formal written apology for the “objectionable” song. Additionally, she pledged to sponsor the education of orphan girls as a corrective measure.

The Controversy: ‘Sarke Chunar’ Backlash

The row stems from the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from the upcoming film KD: The Devil. The track, featuring both Fatehi and Dutt, faced severe public backlash. Consequently, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned the song after receiving complaints regarding its “sexually suggestive” lyrics and choreography. The NCW took suo motu cognisance of the matter, citing potential violations of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, IT Act, and POCSO Act.

Nora Fatehi’s Submission and Social Pledge

Appearing in person after receiving a final notice, Fatehi clarified that she had no intention to offend anyone. She explained that she had originally filmed the music video for the Kannada version of the film three years ago and was unaware of the controversial Hindi lyrics added later.

“I have submitted my apology to the Commission. It was not my intention to offend anybody… I have to be responsible as an artist,” Fatehi told reporters outside the NCW office. To demonstrate her commitment to social welfare, she pledged to sponsor the education of 100 girl children (specifically orphan girls).

Sanjay Dutt’s Earlier Appearance

The move comes days after veteran actor Sanjay Dutt attended his hearing on April 27. Dutt similarly distanced himself from the song’s creative process, stating his role was strictly contractual.

  • Dutt’s Pledge: Committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girl children.
  • Contractual Changes: Promised to include “dignity clauses” in all future contracts to ensure respectful representation of women and children.

Accountability in Creative Content

The NCW, led by Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, emphasized that while artistic freedom is vital, it must be exercised with sensitivity and respect for the dignity of women. The film’s director, Prem, and lyricist Raqueeb Alam have also previously submitted written apologies and acknowledged the negative impact of the content.
