Gangs of Wasseypur or Mukkabaaz would not have been made today: Anurag Kashyap at BIFFes

For filmmaker Anurag Kashyap the biggest fear is not being able to make the kind of cinema he wants to make. He believes he cannot make Gangs of Wassypur or Gulaal or Mukkabaaz today and even if he does they would come under the sword of censorship. Speaking at the 17th Bangalore International Film Festival 2026 during the session Fearless Filmmaking on Saturday Anurag said Gangs of Wasseypur or Mukkabaaz would not have been made today because of the themes I chose to tell the story with. And if they were released they would have been heavily censored.
