The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar has registered a thumping victory and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set for a fifth consecutive term, as the coalition won 202 of the 243 seats in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing party workers and supporters at the BJP headquarters in Delhi after the NDA’s landslide win in Bihar, congratulated people for reposing faith in democracy and the Election Commission by voting in record numbers in the assembly elections.

In a scathing attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Modi criticized it for lacking a positive vision for the country. He warned the Congress’ allies that the party is a parasite and a liability for them.

He declared that the victory of the Bihar assembly marks the dawn of a new era, and the state is poised to experience accelerated progress in the coming five years.

The trends indicated that the NDA had surpassed its 2020 results, securing 122 seats. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan was leading with 33 seats, while Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party failed to secure any seats.

Besides Yadav, prominent candidates from both alliances include Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Tej Pratap from the Janata Dal (JJD), and Rajesh Kumar, the president of the Bihar Congress.

The counting of votes commenced at 8 am. Most exit polls have forecasted a decisive victory for the NDA, which includes the JD(U). However, Tejashwi Yadav has refuted these predictions and asserted that the Mahagathbandhan would emerge victorious with a substantial majority.

The state witnessed a historic voter turnout of 67.13% during the two-phase elections held on November 6 and 11 to elect the 243-member assembly.
