A blast in a car near the Red Fort on Monday evening resulted in the deaths of nine people and injuries to 20 others, according to officials.
The explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at 6:52 p.m. near the Red Fort Metro Station, resulting in mangled bodies and damaged cars scattered across the bustling area. Initial assessments suggest that the suspects may have panicked and made a mistake while handling the explosives, according to top intelligence sources who spoke to NDTV. As the investigation into the blast progresses, investigators have taken three additional doctors from Faridabad’s Al-Falah University into custody today.
The blast occurred hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two residential buildings in Faridabad, Haryana. Sources revealed that Dr Umar Mohammad, the car owner, reportedly panicked and triggered the blast near the Red Fort. This action followed the arrest of two key members of the module, Dr Mujammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather, and the seizure of the explosives by investigators. Sources further mentioned that ammonium nitrate, discovered in Faridabad, was used in the blast.
