Bangladesh beats Afghanistan by 8 runs in Asia Cup

In the Asia Cup 2025 Group B clash at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi Bangladesh secured a thrilling victory against Afghanistan by 8 runs to keep their Super Four hopes alive.
Batting first after winning the toss Bangladesh posted 154 for 5 in 20 overs. Young opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim played a fine knock of 52 runs off 31 balls giving his team a solid start. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto supported with a steady 35 while Towhid Hridoy’s cameo ensured Bangladesh crossed the 150-mark. Afghanistan’s spinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad bowled tightly in the middle overs but could not restrict the Tigers enough.
Chasing 155 Afghanistan began well with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 35 from 31 balls. However Bangladesh bowlers fought back strongly Nasum Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with a brilliant spell of 2 for 11 in 4 overs while Rishad Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with crucial wickets Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually fell short finishing at 146 all out in 20 overs.
With this result Bangladesh stays alive in the tournament while Afghanistan must beat Sri Lanka in their next game to remain in contention for the Super Four stage.
