By Abhishek Kumar

Tokyo is all set to host the 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships from September 13 to 21 2025 at the iconic National Stadium.

The nine-day event will witness more than 2,000 athletes from nearly 200 countries competing across 49 track field and road events. Organisers have made key adjustments to tackle Tokyo’s humid conditions with marathon and race walk events now scheduled to begin 30 minutes earlier at 7:30 a.m. to avoid extreme heat. Additional safety measures including hydration points cooling tents and medical patrols are being deployed to safeguard both athletes and spectators.

For India the spotlight will be on Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra who enters as a strong contender to defend his javelin throw title. India has announced a 19-member contingent featuring four male javelin throwers for the first time alongside names like Murali Sreeshankar in long jump Parul Chaudhary in steeplechase and Priyanka Goswami in race walk

Global stars such as Mondo Duplantis Faith Kipyegon and Ryan Crouser will also headline the championships though injuries have forced top names
