BCCI may bring Bronco Test for Indian players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to add a new fitness test for players – the Bronco Test. This test is already very popular in rugby and now may become part of Indian cricket’s fitness routine.
The Bronco Test is considered one of the toughest drills. In this test, a player has to run shuttles of 20m, 40m and 60m continuously. One round covers 120 metres and the player has to complete five such rounds, which means a total of 1,200 metres without stopping. The target is to finish it in around six minutes. Former South Africa star AB de Villiers also spoke about it and said the Bronco Test is one of the hardest he has ever done.
According to reports, the BCCI has already started trials at its Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where a few players have taken the test. The idea has been suggested by Team India’s strength and conditioning coach Adrian le Roux and is supported by head coach Gautam Gambhir. The main goal is to improve stamina, focus more on running fitness and reduce injuries, especially for fast bowlers.
Right now, Indian players give the Yo-Yo Test and a 2 km run test. If the Bronco Test is included, it will make the fitness standards even tougher for Team India players.
