Asia Cup 2025: Big Controversy Over Shreyas Iyer’s Omission

By Abhishek Kumar

The announcement of Team India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 has turned into a big controversy. The BCCI named a 15-member team along with five reserve players, but the biggest shock is that Shreyas Iyer has not been included at all.
Iyer’s exclusion surprised everyone because he has been in good form and was expected to be a strong option for India’s middle order. Fans and experts quickly raised questions on why such a consistent player was left out.

Former Cricketer Reaction

Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik openly criticised the decision and called it unfair. He even asked, “Where is Shreyas Iyer? How can he be missing from the squad?”
Robin Uthappa also called the decision strange, while Abhishek Nayar hinted that there might be favoritism in selection. A former India coach went further and said Iyer is “not liked as much” by the current team management.

On the other hand, chief selector Ajit Agarkar defended the call. He said with only 15 spots available, some good players were bound to miss out. According to him, Iyer will have to “wait for his chance.”

Reacting to this, Shreyas Iyer’s father called the omission sad and unfair. But he also revealed that Iyer himself took it calmly, saying, “Mera naseeb hai” (It’s my fate).
Meanwhile, fans on social media have strongly criticised the selection, pointing out that in-form players are being ignored while others with weaker performance are getting picked.

This controversy has now sparked a big debate on transparency, favoritism, and fairness in Indian cricket team selections.
