Harmanpreet Kaur Captain for Women’s Cricket World Cup, Smriti Mandhana Vice Captain

BCCI has announced Harmanpreet Kaur as captain of the Indian women’s cricket team for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Smriti Mandhana will serve as vice captain of the team.

The tournament will be played in India from 30 September to 2 November. The 15-member squad has a mix of experienced and young players. Key players include Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Harleen Deol, Pratika Rawal, Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh, Yastika Bhatia, and Sneh Rana. Wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia.
Notably, Shafali Verma has been left out of the squad. Selectors have focused on consistency and rewarded players who have performed well recently.
Ahead of the World Cup, India will play a three-match ODI series against Australia on 14, 17, and 20 September. The first two matches will be in Mullanpur, and the final will be at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We are really excited for the World Cup. We are preparing ourselves mentally and physically.” She added that the team is experienced and well-balanced, ready to give their best on home soil.
India’s women’s team is aiming to win their maiden World Cup. Their closest finish was runners-up in 2017, and this time the team is determined to lift the trophy in front of home fans.
