Dalit Engineer stabbed to death by girlfriend’s brother

A 27 year old Dalit boy who is in a relationship with a girl from another caste is murdered in broad daylight and a 21 year old boy who is the brother of that girl also commits the murder.
Why is this murder committed?
Because the family did not want a person coming from SC caste to be in any kind of relationship with their daughter or sister. The most serious thing is that both the mother and father of the accused are in police, the same police who is responsible to ensure that such crimes do not happen, both are also accused in this case.
This incident happened in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. A software engineer named Kavin Selvaganesh is the victim in this case. Kavin was in contact with a girl since his school days. That girl’s name is Shubhashini. According to reports, both were in a relationship with Apsi Sehmati but Shubhashini’s family did not approve of this relationship. According to the police and reports, the reason for this was that Shubhashini belonged to the MBC (most backward class) community while Kavin’s family belongs to SC (scheduled caste). Due to this, Shubhashini had threatened to kill Kavin several times. According to the reports, Kavin originally belonged to Arumugamangalam in Thoothukudi district and worked as an engineer in TCS company in Chennai while Shubhashini worked in a private hospital in KTC Nagar in Tirunelveli. On 27th July when Kavin went to meet Shubhashini in KTC Nagar hospital regarding his grandfather’s health issue, during that time, Shubhashini’s brother S. Surjith also reached there and told Kavin that his parents want to talk to him. With this belief, Surjith leaves Kavin on the bike. After going some distance, Surjith suddenly stops the bike and while shouting, starts asking Kavin how he had the guts to love a girl of a upper caste. After this, he takes out the knife hiding in his father’s house and attacks Kavin with a knife. According to the witnesses, Kavin also tried to run away but Surjith caught him and attacked him brutally and injured him, after which Kavin died on the spot. After carrying out the attack, Surjith went to Palayamkottai police station and surrendered. After this, the police and the family have termed it a case of caste based murder. Kavin’s mother Tamilselvi has filed a complaint at the Palayamkottai police station. They have made Surjith as well as his parents Sarwan and Krishan Kumari as accused. Surjith’s parents are accused of threatening Kavin several times before. After this, police have registered a case against all of them under Bhartiya New Code or BNS and under SC/ST Act 2015.
Along with this, police have also seized CCTV photos from the spot and sent Kavin’s body to Tirunelveli Government hospital for postmortem. Kavin’s family has refused to take the body and is demanding strict action against the accused. The family says that Surjith’s parents are also involved in the murder. Kavin’s mother has said in the complaint that Surjith’s parents had objections to the relationship between the two from the beginning. They repeatedly harassed Kavin and even now they are using their power to influence the case.
