INDIAN MAN BEATEN: RACISM IN AUSTRALIA

An Indian -origin man brutally beaten by a group of teenagers while he was returning back home from pharmacy. The incident happened in Melbourne last week. The victim , whose name is Saurabh Anand , was left severely injured with his hand almost detached.
According to the report , Saurabh Anand, a 33 year old Indian, returning back to his home after buying medicines from a pharmacy at the Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows around 7:30 pm on July 19 and was on a call with his friend when suddenly five teenagers surrounded him. One teenager went through Anand’s pockets and the other punched him in the head till he fell to the ground. Third teenager pulled out a machete and as reported held it to Anand’s throat.
According to the victim , his instant reaction was to bring his arm as self defense. He said that while he tried to protect himself, the machete just went through his wrist. The second attack went through his hand and the third through his bone , as reported by the victim to The Age.
The attackers also stabbed him in the shoulder , causing him a fractured spine and broken bones. Anand , all in blood and pain , managed to walk out of the area and called for help. He was rushed to the nearby hospital. The doctors thought they had to amputate his hand but were able to reattach it.
