Why Akshay is the real Khiladi of Bollywood!
If there’s one person who can match the Khans in star power as well as assure a blockbuster on the box office, it is Akshay Kumar. The actor, who was a waiter once, has over time become a name to reckon with in tinsel town. Born as Rajiv Hari Bhatia, Akshay began his acting career with Saugandh in 1991 but the film turned out to be an absolute dud. Down, but not out by any stretch of imagination, he gradually made his mark in the industry as an action hero.
Akshay Kumar is the 2nd actor after Rajendra Kumar to have given 4 successive Hits in the same year (2007: Namastey London; Heyy Babyy; Bhool Bhulaiya; Welcome). He still holds this record. Akki is also the only superstar to risk his stardom 3-4 times in a year. While at times he got paid off for this courageous attitude (2007 and 2012), mostly large number of releases have adversely impacted his success rate. But with back-to-back three hits this year, he seems to have once again struck box-office gold in 2016, like he did in 2007 and 2012.
Akshay’s last release ‘Rustom’ which released with Mohenjo Daro last week, will become the superstar’s 3rd consecutive 100 crore grosser – all of which have come this year. No other actor in the history of Indian Cinema has previously achieved the same record, the most was 2 films – which has been achieved 4 times before by Salman Khan.
It could be a unique record which only Akshay Kumar can boast of, because very few actors do more than 2 films per year. Akshay could achieve the same record next year or even deliver four 100 crore films next year, if his fantastic run continues. After all he is in top of his game!
