Devotees who are based at far off places and wish to pray to Lord Ganesha call up the priests at the temple on their mobile phone. The priests in turn put the mobile handset close to the God’s ears even as the devotee offers prayers over the phone. On Ganesh Chaturthi day, as thousands of local devotees throng the temple, there are hundreds more based abroad who wish to offer prayers, too, at the temple to seek blessings. This is how the tradition seems to have started.

Twitter has launched a special Lord Ganesha Twitter emoji that Indians can Tweet to welcome the much-loved god home on Monday, 5th September. When people Tweet using #GaneshChaturthi, #HappyGaneshChaturthi, #Ganeshotsav, #गणेशचतुर्थी, #गणेशोत्सव, a Lord Ganesha emoji will be activated next to the hashtag. The emoji has gone live since September 4 and will be active until the last day of celebrations. This little effort by twitter is big enough to make us smile and enjoy the grand welcome of Bappa in an even better way.
