“Viral Video: Guard’s Unbelievable Move Stops Train to Open Railway Crossing in Bihar”
Indian Railways is once again in the spotlight, but this time for an unexpected and rather unusual reason. A viral video has surfaced online, capturing a peculiar incident in Bihar’s Siwan district. The footage reveals a train guard manually opening a level crossing gate, sparking a wave of reactions across social media. The video begins with a local reporter standing near the crossing as a train halts just meters from the closed gate.
To the astonishment of onlookers, the train guard steps out, walks back to the crossing, and manually opens the gate, allowing waiting vehicles to pass through. After completing this surprising task, he returns to the train, and it resumes its journey. The reporter is heard commenting on this unique practice, stating, “The train has crossed, but the gate is still down. The train will stop ahead and the guard will come out with a handle. He will use the handle to lift the gate and then the train will move forward again. This is how the crossing works in Bihar’s Siwan district. It’s a unique system in Bihar where the train’s loco pilot or guard personally open and closes the gate.” When asked if this practice has been ongoing for years, the guard remained silent, adding to the mystery.
The video quickly gained traction, prompting a flood of comments and discussions. One user on X shared the clip with the caption, “Amazing sight, as the train guard or driver gets off to close the gate. Is this Bihar’s development or the railway minister’s hard work?” This incident has ignited a debate about railway safety and regulations, highlighting concerns about the manual handling of railway crossings. In response, Railway Seva tagged the local authority on social media, urging them to investigate the matter. Some users speculated that the incident is a result of staffing shortages, with one commenter noting, “Staff ki shortage hai. (There’s a shortage in staff).” Another individual explained, “This happens on some single-line sections where the daily traffic is very low, and it is not economical to put a cabin and employ people at every level crossing.”
The video has already amassed over 1 million views, drawing widespread attention to this unusual situation. As the debate continues, the incident raises important questions about the state of infrastructure and the need for modernization in certain areas of the Indian Railways.
