UP State Biodiversity Board joins hands with SheWings Foundation to celebrate National Bird Day: Know More
In celebration of National Bird Day, the UP State Biodiversity Board, in association with SheWings Foundation, organized a remarkable event at the Okhla Bird Sanctuary on January 4, 2025. The event saw active participation from over 40 students of Amity University, who gathered to raise awareness about bird conservation and environmental sustainability.The day began with a special session on Nest Making led by renowned Sparrow Conservationist, Shikha Shukla. Shukla’s informative session educated participants on the importance of creating safe spaces for birds to nest, helping protect endangered species such as sparrows. “Birds play a crucial role in our ecosystems, and with many species facing the risk of extinction, it’s vital that we take immediate steps to protect their habitats,” Shikha emphasized.PK Shrivastava, District Forest Officer (DFO) of Gautam Buddha Nagar, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the urgency of conserving bird species. “There are many bird species that are rapidly disappearing. We all need to come together to save them and create environment where birds can thrive,” he stated, urging all present to be active participants in the conservation movement.The students then embarked on a nature walk, exploring the rich biodiversity of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary. They marveled at the diverse flora and fauna while learning about the critical role the sanctuary plays in protecting migratory and resident bird species. During the walk, the students also participated in a bird photography contest, capturing the beauty and essence of the birds they encountered.To encourage further involvement, all participants received a hamper as a token of appreciation. The hampers included eco-friendly products such as sanitary pads, bamboo brushes, hand wash, and cosmetics, promoting sustainability and self-care.The event successfully brought together students, environmentalists, and conservationists, all united in their commitment to preserving birdlife for future generations
