Glenn Maxwell creates history, sets record of taking highest number of catches in BBL

Australian T20 specialist Glen Maxwell added yet another feather in his cap in the 26th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2017-18 on January 12. While playing against the Melbourne Renegades, Maxwell took four catches in an innings becoming the only player in BBL history to take a maximum number of catches in all seasons. Maxwell now has taken a total of 27 catches in 40 matches surpassing Adam Voges and George Bailey. He is also the cricketer to take joint most catches in a BBL inning.

In today’s match against the Renegades, the first catch Maxwell took on Jackson Coleman’s delivery to dismiss the Renegades’ wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Ludeman. A short ball made Ludeman hit the ball towards the backward point where Maxwell got the hold of the ball after losing it on the first attempt. It was an astonishing catch which left the crowd stunned.

The next catch Maxwell took to dismiss Renegades skipper Dwayne Bravo. In the 14th over, Bravo charged Evan Gulbis down and dragged the length back. The ball didn’t carry away and was landed in Maxwell’s hands. Bravo had to return to the dressing room after scoring a fiery 26 off 18 balls.

The next two catches were taken to dismiss Mohammad Nabi (23) and Jack Wildermuth (23) in the 15th and 19th over respectively to complete 27 catches in all the BBL seasons.
