Sheikh Hasina’s Exit, Bangladeshi Youth Lead the Charge in Street Clean-Up
Following the dramatic ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, was thrown into chaos. The mass uprising, led by students, resulted in the vandalism and looting of Hasina’s residence by protesters. However, amid the disorder, an inspiring movement has emerged: the youth of Bangladesh are stepping up to restore order and cleanliness in their city.
In the absence of traffic police, young volunteers have taken charge of managing Dhaka’s congested streets, ensuring smooth traffic flow despite the turmoil. Their efforts extend beyond traffic management, as many have also been seen actively participating in cleaning up the National Parliament premises, demonstrating a sense of responsibility and unity.
A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) captures the heartwarming scene. The caption reads: “Yesterday we saw that some protesters in Bangladesh had created a ruckus inside the Parliament, and this picture is coming out where the youth are cleaning. A nation is built by such people.”
The 34-second clip shows young Bangladeshis tirelessly cleaning the Parliament grounds, with some guiding their peers and organizing the effort. The video quickly gained traction on social media, inspiring others with its message of hope and resilience.
Another user on X shared visuals from the cleanliness drive, showing residents wielding brooms and holding sacks to collect trash, while others expertly manage traffic. The initiative has sparked a wave of positive reactions online.
“Great work! We need more people like these,” commented X user Wreesha, while another simply wrote, “Wow!” A third user expressed admiration, saying, “I can’t express how beautiful this is.”
Sheikh Hasina’s resignation marked the end of the Awami League’s 15-year rule, driven by student-led demands for change. She has since fled the country and is currently at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, seeking asylum in European countries. Reports indicate that the United Kingdom is unwilling to grant her refugee status, and the United States has revoked her visa.
In this time of political upheaval, the actions of Bangladesh’s youth serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that a nation’s strength lies in the hands of its people. As they clean up the aftermath of chaos, they are also paving the way for a brighter future.
