Pre-poll political tremors in Uttarakhand. Muslims to get “leave” on Friday for Namaz.

Setting a political agenda, and to gain a lead against their competitors, mainly BJP, Uttarakhand government is betting their eyes on Muslim voters. The state, which is going to polls next year, is seeing political tremors in the region.

Harish Rawat government, on Saturday, chaired a high-profile meeting with their members of the party on a decision to give 90-minute break to the government employees from the Muslim community. The meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Harish Rawat, decided a special break from 12:30 pm till 2:00 pm to be given to the employees from the community.

Taking the tough stance on the decision taken by Harish Rawat-led congress government; BJP accuses congress party of playing caste politics in order to woo Muslim community in the state. The state has 13.94 percent Muslim voters which according to political pundits may play a big factor in upcoming state elections.

It remains to be seen how much this move will help the Rawat led government in upcoming elections or if other state leaders were planning to add ‘extra’ leave to appeal Muslim voters in their states too.

Uttarakhand Assembly Election Schedule 2017 would be announced by Election Commission of India around December 2016 and Elections should take place by Jan-Feb 2017.
