Yogi government all set to bring tough law to curb ‘Love-Jihad’, draft of ordinance almost ready

Yogi Adityanath government is very serious in curbing the incidents of forced conversions in Uttar Pradesh. Love-Jihad is soon going to be a law in the state to curb the growing incidents of jihad. Stringent legislation to prevent forced conversions has almost been drafted. The Department of Justice and Home Affairs has done a thorough study of the law applicable in eight states for this. Key facts of the law of other states are also included in it. The state government is preparing to bring an ordinance for Love Jihad soon.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had asked the criminal mindset to make a law regarding the cases of forced conversions. The government is taking this step due to the increasing incidents of love jihad in the state. In the past, CM Yogi had given strict instructions regarding the love jihad cases in Kanpur.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed under the leadership of CO Vikas Pandey in Kanpur is investigating 14 cases of Love Jihad. Some special people or the role of any organization is also being investigated behind these incidents. The SIT will soon submit its report to the government.

The Law Commission had submitted a proposal of Uttar Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill-2019 to the Government to enact a law for the prevention of forced conversions. The Law Commission made its proposal in view of the specifics of the law applicable in other states. The Commission had also said that there is not enough law in the state for its prevention. Sources say that on the basis of the proposal of the Law Commission, the officials of Justice Department and Home Department are busy finalizing the new draft.
