PM Modi to hold high-level review meeting today on COVID-19, vaccination  and Cyclone Tauktae

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi orchestrated a high-level meeting to assess the readiness of states and central ministries/agencies to deal with the effects of Cyclone ‘Yaas.’

Senior government officials and representatives from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Secretaries from the Telecom, Power, Civil Aviation, and Earth Sciences Ministries, as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, attended the meeting to review arrangements for Cyclone Yaas.

Cyclone ‘Yaas’ is forecast to cross the coasts of West Bengal and north Odisha by the evening of May 26th, with wind speeds ranging around 155 to 165 kmph with gusty winds up to 185 kmph, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It is set to bring heavy rain to West Bengal’s coastal districts and north Odisha. Storm surges of up to 4 metres are anticipated in coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha, according to the IMD. IMD has been sending out frequent briefings to all concerned states with the most up-to-date forecast.

The NDRF is supporting state governments in their arrangements for evacuating people from sensitive areas and is undertaking a community awareness programme as how to cope with cyclonic emergencies on a regular basis. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is monitoring the situation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is in contact with the concerned State Governments/UTs and Central Agencies.
