UP Elections 2022: Will Yogi’s debut bloom ‘Kamal’ in “Purvanchal” or Akhilesh will dominate?

March 3, 2022 (New Delhi) : Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections are approaching towards the end. On March 3, Sixth phase of Elections are happening in “Purvanchal” belt of UP. In this phase of Elections, 10 districts and 57 seats are going to vote today which covers eastern Uttar Pradesh. The districts that will cast their votes on Thursday are Ambedkar Nagar, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, and Ballia.

Incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is contesting from the Gorakhpur Urban seat which makes his debut in the state Assembly elections in the sixth phase of the polls. Adityanath has been five times MP from Gorakhpur constituency between 1994 to 2014 holding strong position on the seat and constituency. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded a Brahmin candidate, Subhavati Shukla, against CM Yogi Adityanath from the Gorakhpur urban assembly seat for UP Elections.

Samajwadi Leader, Akhilesh Yadav has tried to influence votes particularly, in areas like Ballia, Deoria, Kushinagar, Basti and Maharajganj. Interestingly, “Purvanchal”or eastern region of UP is also known as ‘janambhoomi’ and ‘karambhoomi’ of socialist ideologue Dr Ram Manohar Lohia. However, Incumbent CM Yogi Adityanath is giving tough fight in the sixth phase of Assembly Elections .

On Wednesday, March 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi while campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh election, said that it was because of India’s rising power that his government was able to evacuate citizens from Ukraine. He also said India would not spare any effort to bring home citizens from Ukraine. On the same day, Congress Chief, Rahul Gandhi said that government should disclose how many students have been evacuated and how many are still stranded in Ukraine. He also urged the government to clearly talk with their families. Elections for the seventh phase are scheduled to be held on March 7, 2022.
