Kanta Prasad, the owner of the popular eatery “Baba Ka Dhaba” in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, who shot to fame overnight after a video of his humble eatery vent viral in Delhi has filed a police complaint against the YouTube influencer Gaurav Wasan for misappropriation of funds.
In the complaint, Kanta Prasad has said Gaurav Wasan used their videos to ask for a donation from the social media community and misappropriated those funds. Gaurav Wasan has allegedly shared only his family and friend’s bank account numbers without the knowledge of ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ owners Kanta Prasad and his wife.
He further alleged that Wasan “intentionally and deliberately shared only his and his family/friends bank details and mobile numbers with the donors and collected a huge amount of donation through different modes of payments i.e bank account/wallets without providing any information to the complainant.”
The owner of the food joint also accused the YouTuber of not providing details of financial transactions to him.
“We received the complaint yesterday at the Malviya Nagar Police Station and the matter is being probed. No FIR (First Information Report) has been registered yet in the case,” police official Atul Kumar Thakur said.
Baba Ka Dhaba had shot to fame and saw scores of people queuing up outside the roadside food stall after a video of him tearfully narrating the economic crisis he and his wife had been facing during the lockdown went viral on the internet.
Gaurav Wasan had captured the video of ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ and had shared it on his social media account urging people to help the 80-year old earn a livelihood.
A day after the heartbreaking video, Baba Ka Dhaba was trending on social media, and hundreds of people flocked the food joint in Malviya Nagar. Delhi residents made a beeline at the shop as celebrities shared videos asking locals to help the couple.
