On the occasion of Navy Day, these Ministers have sent their Greetings to the Navy officers on Twitter. Have a look.

In 1971, On the same date 4 December, 50 years ago, the Indian Navy’s “Killer Squadron” sunk 2 Pakistani Ships under “Operation Trident”. On 9 December, the Indian Navy had carried out a follow-up operation named “Python”. Under this, the squadron sank another Pakistani Navy ship. From that day onwards 4 December is celebrated as Navy Day to remember the Bravehearts and their commitment towards securing India’s marine interest. Navy Day in India is observed on 4 December to recognize the role and achievements of the Indian Navy. The day was chosen to commemorate the launch of operation Trident against Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971.

The Indian Navy is the naval branch of the Indian Armed Forces led by the President of India as commander-in-chief. The Maratha Emperor, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is considered the Father of the Indian Navy.


Remembring this iconic day, the Defence Ministry said in his tweet, “On this special day commemorating Indian Navy’s daring ‘Operation Trident’ during 1971 war, my greetings and best wishes to all personnel of this outstanding force which continues to protect our national interest through maritime security.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings on the occasion of Navy Day and said that Indian Navy personnel have always been at the forefront of mitigating gating crisis situations like natural disasters.

Sharing a snippet of one of his episodes of “Mann Ki baat” radio program where he talked about the NavyDay, PM Modi tweeted “Greetings on Navy Day. We are proud of the exemplary contributions of the Indian navy. Our navy is widely respected for its professionalism and outstanding courage. Our navy personnel has always been at the forefront of mitigating crisis situations like natural disasters.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings to Navy personnel and their families.


“Greetings to our brave Indian Navy personnel and their families on the special occasion of Navy Day. The nation is proud of our valorous Naval force for their commitment towards securing India’s maritime interests and helping the countrymen during the civil emergencies,” Shah tweeted.
