The death toll due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome mounted to 73 in Bihar

People in Bihar has been hit by Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and death toll due to this infectious disease mounted to 73 and counting. Bihar Health minister Mangal Pandey said “State government is doing its best and we are calling our expertise and team of doctors from AIIMS Patna to save the life of our children’s”

He further added that “We are following the exact protocol and measures like the right treatment, right medicines, and virus free atmosphere for infected patients to save children life’s suffering from Encephalitis virus.” Sleeping empty stomach, dehydration and eating lychee on empty stomach are the few reasons responsible for this disease, Pandey concluded.

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain tissue. The most common cause is viral infections. In rare cases, it can be caused by bacteria or even fungi. There are two main types of encephalitis: primary and secondary. Primary encephalitis occurs when a virus directly infects the brain and spinal cord. Secondary encephalitis occurs when an infection starts elsewhere in the body and then travels to your brain.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announces an ex-gratia of Rs 4 Lakh each to families of the children who died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Muzaffarpur. He has also given directions to health dept, dist administration & doctors to take necessary measures to fight the disease.
