Pranab Mukherjee dies at the age of 84 due to lungs infection at Army Hospital

New Delhi: Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee took his last breath at Army’s Research and Referral Hospital, Delhi. Pranab Mukherjee had developed lung infection thus his health condition was severe on Wednesday morning. The Army’s Research and Referral Hospital told ANI on Wednesday. Netizens have considered it a big loss to the Indian politics.

On August 10 2020, Mukherjee was admitted to the hospital located at Delhi Cantonment for his brain surgery and blood clot removal and he also tested COVID-19 positive. Since then, he was in a ventilatory support.

“There has been a decline in the medical condition of Shri Pranab Mukherjee as he has developed features lung infection. He continues to be on ventilatory support and is currently being managed by a team of specialists,” Army Hospital said in a statement.

On morning around 8:30 am, his son Abhijit Mukherjee tweeted: “With all your good wishes and sincere efforts of the doctors, my father is stable now! His vital parameters continue to remain under control and manageable! Positive signs of his improvement is noticed! I request you all to pray for his speedy recovery!” Abhijit Mukherjee has been updating his health reports since his father was admitted to the hospital.

Pranab Mukherjee was the 13th President of India who served the country from 2012 to 2017. He was also awarded Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in 2019 by the current president of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
