Mumbai: A mother burnt her 5-year old daughter with candle to teach her discipline

On Wednesday, Kalamboli police arrested a 25-year-old woman and her 24-year-old sister-in-law, for hurting the vegetable vendor daughter with candle. The duo wanted to discipline the child.

The complaint was given to the police by 23-year-old father of that child. The father is a vegetable vendor and he is a resident of Roadpali area, Kalamboli. The victim is the eldest of five children who live in that house.

“Victim’s father told us that the child is quite mischievous, to discipline her, his wife and sister-in-law hurted her with a candle on February 3”, said Satish Gaikwad, senior inspector of Kalamboli police station.

The police further added that they have got burnt marks on child’s body, her face, stomach, back and hands.

“When we spoke to the victim, she said she has been hurt by her mother and aunt who wanted to set an example for the other children living in the house”, senior inspector Gaikwad said.

The duo have been arrested under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
