Celebration on the peak, India celebrates its 70th Republic day

On Saturday, India is celebrating its 70th Republic Day. Like every year, Parades are taken out at Delhi’s Rajpath. There is a glimpse of India’s power and culture. A cultural pageant including performances by school children, display of tableaux from different states and various ministries and departments is also organized. South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa is the Chief Guest at the Parade this year.

As this year celebration marks the 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the theme of tableaux is Gandhi. Tableau of Sixteen States and Union Territories and six Central Ministries will participate in the Parade. The parade will start at 9.50 am from Vijay Chowk and proceed towards the Red Fort grounds through the Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg.

Multi security has been put in place in view of the Republic day. Around 25 thousand security personnel have been deployed across the city and security has been beefed up at strategic locations in central Delhi. CCTV cameras and face-recognition cameras have also been installed at Rajpath.

Mobile hit teams, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters have also been deployed to keep a watch on the eight-km-long parade route from Rajpath to the Red Fort, besides the nearby localities. Also, flying of para-gliders, para motors, hang gliders, UAVs, microlight aircrafts, remotely piloted aircrafts, hot air balloons etc are prohibited.

Traffic diversions will be in place in and around the parade route. In Metro, boarding and de-boarding will not be allowed at Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan from 5 am till 12 noon and at Lok Kalyan Marg and Patel Chowk from 8.45 am to 12 noon.

While Doordarshan is India’s go-to channel for viewing the live telecast of the parade, this time one can catch the live action on our social media handles as well.
