Supreme Court Ask Center to Conduct NEET in Urdu
There has been a debate going on for the encouragement of Sanskrit in India. Many people are against it as it does not have any relevance left today but many people are supporting it. Urdu is also a neglecting language in India right now but there is some good news for the Urdu speaking people in India.
Supreme Court on Thursday gave centre directives on the petition filed by Students Islamic Organization of India to allow students to give exams in Urdu. The decision will be implemented for exams to be held in 2018 – 2019 next year.
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) presently is being held in 10 different languages i.e. Hindi, English, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi and Kannada.
A bench comprising justices Dipak Misra, AM Khanwilkar and MM Shantanagoudar told the petitioner that it would not be possible for the government to include Urdu in the NEET this year. The exam is scheduled for May 7. “We direct the Union of India to include Urdu as a language in the NEET from the academic session 2018-19 onwards,” the bench said.
The student organisation on 13th March has also accused the centre of being communal by not involving Urdu as a medium to give the exam.
Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, appearing for the Centre, said that they were not opposed to the suggestion of conducting NEET examination in Urdu medium also from 2018 academic year onwards.
Since last year, state governments have been requesting the Centre to include regional languages.
This year, the government has introduced two criteria on age and attempt cap has students up in arms across the nation. While the criteria were revised, the final verdict on upper age limit will be out in July.
