Is It Welfare For Women? UP’s Women Welfare Minister Inaugurates Bar At Lucknow

Lucknow I Swati Singh, Minister of State for NRI, Agriculture and Foreign Trade and state minister in the Ministry of Women Welfare, under the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government, recently inaugurated a beer bar in the capital amidst a huge controversy considering that she swears by ^‘Bhartiya Sanskriti^’. There has been a lot of hullabaloo in the past few days ever since the pictures of the inauguration went viral on social media.

The opposition parties have attacked the government over the outspokenness of women against liquor shops in the state on one side and the launch of a beer bar by a woman minister of their own cabinet on the other. Social media has been rampant with massive trolls against the Yogi government that had once vehemently opposed cow slaughter and revered the animal akin to a mother has now started worshipping alcohol.As if this was not enough, not only was she the chief guest of the ceremony but her husband was appointed the special guest. With the images becoming viral all over, it has raised questions about the government’s credibility, considering last month when women all over UP had opposed the opening of liquor shops, the Yogi cabinet issued strict action against anyone that did so.

Defending the move, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, Spokesperson of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh said “I have no idea regarding the issue. I can only comment after I have spoken to Swati ji.”

Attacking the BJP on the same, Congress said, “The double-standards of the BJP have been exposed. They promote one thing but act contrarily.”
