A woman aged 84 years was rescued by Delhi police who accidentally locked herself in a bed box at her home in Central Delhi on Thursday, said the police.

The officials said that personnel from Central Delhi’s Prasad Nagar police station reached the house of the woman within six minutes after they received a call from their relatives and took another two minutes to open the iron door and rescue the old woman from the bed box.

‘The police station staff including two inspectors reached the woman’s home within 7-8 minutes, Dev Nagar, Karol Bagh. They found it locked from inside. They broke open the door using a hammer and iron rode and rescued her. She was unable to come out of the bed box because of her old age and weakness,” said DCP Bhatia.

Sanjay Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (central) said, the woman remained locked inside the bed box for nearly 10 minutes.

The woman, Swarosh Kohli, has been living alone since her husband and son died some years ago and she is being registered with the senior citizen cell of Delhi police.

The Prasad Nagar police were informed about the incident by Kohli’s granddaughter, Nancy Kohli, who saw the CCTV footage live which was streaming on her phone, which showed that her grandmother accidentally locked herself in bed box while opening it, says DCP Bhatia. The call was made by the granddaughter who is living in South Delhi’s Alaknanda at 3.45 pm.

He further added, Kohli’s granddaughter and her husband also reached and thanked personnel for such a prompt action and saving their grandmother’s life.
