‘Melodi’ Selfie, Warm Hugs, and Bilateral Talks: Highlights from PM Modi’s G7 Trip to Italy
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP expressed strong disapproval of the memes circulating on social media under the hashtag #Melodi, calling them “absolutely cringe” and a poor reflection of the humor prevailing in India. This comment came in response to a series of memes that emerged after a light-hearted selfie video was shared by Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy. In the video, Meloni greeted viewers with, “Hello from the Melodi team,” while capturing a moment of laughter between the two leaders.
This was not the first instance of Meloni and Modi drawing attention with their friendly interactions. Last December, during the COP28 summit in Dubai, Meloni shared another selfie with Modi, tagging it ‘Good friends at COP28’ with #Melodi, which quickly went viral, amassing 47 million views.
At the G7 Summit, PM Modi, representing India as an outreach nation, was warmly welcomed by PM Meloni with a traditional namaste, highlighting the cordial relations between the two countries. This visit marked PM Modi’s first official trip after being sworn in for a third term on June 9. During the summit, he addressed an outreach session on Artificial Intelligence, stressing the importance of technology benefiting all sectors of society and calling for an end to monopolies in technology. This address underscored India’s proactive stance on global tech equity and innovation.
