Despacito Gets The Indian Makeover, And Its Spot On

Since its release, Despacito has taken the world by its rhythm and music. The song by Puerto Rican artistes Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is breaking records of viewership on YouTube, streaming almost 771 million times online in the US alone and has got unlimited love from all over the world. According to Billboard, Despacito became the first ever Spanish song to reach the peak in the last 20 years.

The song began so popular that Canadian pop-star, Justin Bieber, also tried his hand and remixed the song. To add the song success in India, Universal Music Group collaborated with Shiamak Dava and launched #DespacitoMoment campaign last month.

Davar has given an Indian flavour to the song keeping the essence of the Spanish hit intact. As expected, the song does have Saree clad women dancing to the tunes of ‘Despacito’, however, the overall piece is simply splendid.
About the experience of conceiving the Indian version, Davar said,

“When Universal Music approached me to direct and choreograph the India video, I was very excited. They wanted a flavour of India with a global appeal. My dance company and I had a great time working on this video.”

Devraj Sanyal, Managing Director and CEO, Universal Music India and South Asia, also shared:
“Shiamak is the original dance guru and what he’s created with the video is sheer magic by capturing the true Indian essence in a gigantic Spanish song.”

“We are confident that this will take Despacito to a whole new audience in India while at the same time showcase the beauty and grace of Indian dancers to a massive global audience out there,” he added.
