Uber driver chopped to death by couple who ran away with his cab – Read More

A couple, Farhat Ali, 34 and his partner Seema Sharma, 30 were arrested on Sunday for killing an Uber driver and robbing his cab.

The driver has been identified as Ram Govind. “The couple were arrested after they were seen in CCTV footage around the cab of the deceased driver, Ram Govind”, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijayanta Arya.

An FIR for a missing complaint was filed on 29th January when the victim’s wife, a resident of Shakarpur area of East Delhi told the police that her husband who worked as an Uber driver was missing.

“During investigation, we found that it was a blind case and there were no witnesses. The last ride was booked from Madangir to Kapashera from where the GPS device was found stopped”, Arya said.

“With the help of mobile surveillance, Govind’s phone was recovered and a police team found a couple moving around the cab on the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road”, she added.

“During interrogation, the duo accepted their crime. They said during the ride, the idea of robbing the car popped up. They called the driver to their house, offered him tea with sedatives. Then they strangled him to death and cut his body into small pieces and threw it in a drain in Greater Noida”, Arya further added.

The case has been filed under ‘accused dire need of money’. Police also recovered Govind’s possession from the duo.
