As the world leaders unite on the stage of ASEAN summit to propagate the push for bilateral ties and to discuss the support of the countries, how one can overlook the President of the US Donald Trump.

The “ASEAN handshake”, a tradition, where leaders of every Pacific Rim ally is forced to endure – and President Trump made it awkward for himself.

He twisted his right arm over the left, and his left arm over the right to shake hands with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Phuc and Russia’s PM Dmitry Medvedev beamed for the customary handshake, while Duterte offered a mere smirk.

The President has long struggled to shake hands with world leaders without making it an international incident.

He fumbled handshakes with France’s Emmanuel Macron and the First Lady, Brigitte Macron. Poland’s First Lady skipped her opportunity to shake Trump’s hand — an apparent act of defiance that stunned him.
