Singer-Songwriter Prateek Kuhad signs to American record label Elektra

Singer-Songwriter Prateek Kuhad on Wednesday announced his signing to the American record label Elektra.

The ‘Kasoor’ singer is the first-ever artist signed out of India to Elektra, which also has on its roster some of modern’s music’s most successful artists like multiple Grammy Award Winner and singer-Songwriter Brandi Carlile, Icelandic rockers Kaleo, and American rock band Young the Giant.

The news is heralded by the re-release of Prateek’s 2018 breakthrough EP Cold/ Mess, the video of which has been streamed 10 million times on YouTube and has accumulated 10.29 million streams on Spotify.

Hailed by Rolling Stone India as ‘one of the country’s leading singer-songwriters, ‘ Prateek Kuhad has gained international popularity in recent years, writing and performing in both Hindi and English and garnering several accolades and honors around the globe.

The singer-songwriter has been described as ‘ Simon and Garfunkel by way or Damian Rice, ‘and has racked up critical praise from NPR, Billboard, and former President Barack Obama, who featured ‘cold /mess ‘ on his 2019 Songs of the Year Playlist.

Prateek’s debut album In Tokens and Charms was an instant hit, earning the artist a MTV Europe Music Award, Indie Album of the Years honors from iTunes, and the title of Best Pop Artist at the Radio City Freedom Awards.

he American Label Elektra has, since it’s inception in 1950, played an important role in the development of contemporary folk music and rock music and recorded legendary artists as The Doors, The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt.

In More recent year’s Elektra roster of music artists including Metallica, Tracy Chapman, Phish, and Bjork.
