Shantanu Mukherjee (born 30th September 1972)Known as Shaan is an Indian playback singer, actor, television active presenter in Hindi Telugu Kannada marathi Bengali Gujarati Urdu language and films and television host.
He was born on 30th September 1972 Khandwa, in Madhya Pradesh in a Bengali family. His grandfather Jahar Mukherjee , a well known lyricist and his father late Manas Mukherjee ,is a well known music director and his sister Sagarika is a singer as well.

Did you know before starting his singing career what he used to work as?
Before coming into the profession of singing he used to work in boutique as his father died when he just 13 years due to tobacco smoking.
Beginning of his singing career:
He was very passionate about his singing career and took his classical training from Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Saab.
He started his singing career by singing jingles for advertisements. After giving it up for brief period ,he returned and along with jingles he began to sing remixes and cover versions. Shaan and his sister’s career began when they sound Magnasound recording company and recorded a few albums including the hit album Nawjawan and the Q-Funk which sold the millions of copies.
Got his singing debut from this movie at very young age
He debuted his his singing at age of 17 by singing few lines of ‘Kitne Pyari Pyari Hai Dosti’from film Parinda (1989)
Winner of MTV Asia Award in 2001
In 2001 he won MTV Asia Award for Best Artist in India for his best solo album ‘Taanha Dil.’
His collaboration with other international singers:
Shaan is one of the few Indian singers who had collaborated with other international singers. 2- 3 rf working with blue for the song “One Love”and singing the theme song (“shuraat”) for the film The Chroniclers of Naraina :The Lion, The Witch ,The Wardrobe ,Shaan has collaborated with Micheal Learns to Rock for his album Tishnagi. Shaan also combined with six of the album nine’s tracks and penned most of the songs excluding TakeMe To Your Heart with Micheal Learns To Rock.The video of this song is popular too.
Winner of 2 Filmfare Awards:
With his fabulous voice he won2 Filmfare Awards for Chaand Sifarish -Fanaa (2006) and Tere Naina – Sawariya (2008)
Ambassador in Salaam Bombay NGO’s campaign against tobacco
It is said that reason behind joining this campaign was that he lost his father when he was very young due to tobacco smoking. In 2011,he was honoured by New York City for his campaign against tobacco.

Personal life of Shaan
Shaan married to Entrepreneur an Former Flight attendant Radhika Mukherjee on 18th November 2000. They have two sons :Soham who is an Indian rapper and Shubh who is an Indian singer.

In show Music ka Maha muquabala he had certain controversy with Mika Singh.
Another controversy was when he said about Honey Singh that he is not an impressive singer as his raps flow out of the mind of the people.
On 28th October 2018 during his concert in Guhwati, Assam when he sang song in Bengali the audience threw paper ball on him by saying that this is Assam not Bengal.
