Even as the world continues to reel under the effects of COVID-19, concerns are rising over the recent outbreak of rare monkeypox infection in different parts of the world. As of Saturday approximately 92 cases and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported from 12 countries, the World Health Organization (WHO). Belgium has also introduced a 21 days lockdown. While the virus itself is not a sexually transmitted infection, which are generally spread through semen and vaginal fluids, the most recent surge in cases appears to have been spread among men who have sex with other men, WHO officials said, emphasizing that anyone can contract monkeypox. However, much updates on this virus are awaited.
