The upcoming elections do not seem to be a cake walk for Congress. Well, it never was but this time the hurdles for the party are reaching the peaks. After a lot of MLA’s deflecting from the party, Congress will soon lose one of the most important members from the party. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Congress MLA from Uttar Pradesh is joining BJP. She was the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee from 2007 to 2012. She is the daughter of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, a former Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Rita Joshi was seen nowhere in the election campaigning with Congress in the past few months. Also its is asserted that Rita was in contact with BJP through her brother Vijay Bahuguna who deflected from Congress and joined BJP earlier from Rita’s support only during the prez rule in Uttarakhand.
Congress may face further desertions in its ranks ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections with former state president and MLA Rita Bahuguna Joshi will join Bharatiya Janata Party.
Joshi had led the party in the last assembly polls in the state in which Congress came a poor fourth.
Elections to the state assembly are to be held early next year and Congress had this time around projected former Delhi CM Sheila Diksht, another brahmin leader as CM candidate. However her brother Vijay Bahuguna denied her deflection and dubbed this as a rumour.
Rita Joshi also had a confidential meeting with Amit Shah on the same regards. She has also been given assurance of a good position in BJP. Rita has also pressurized BJP to project Vijay Bahuguna as a CM candidate from Uttarakhand. It would be interesting to see the Congress’s reactions on this.
