By Ishank Katyal

France’s Commission Nationale Informatique & Liberties (CNIL) data privacy regulator on Thursday claimed that it had fined a total of 100 million Euros on two Google units and 35 million euros on Amazon subsidiary over advertising cookies.

The fines were imposed “for having placed advertising cookies on the computers of the users… without obtaining prior consent and without providing adequate information.”

A cookie is a small piece of data stored on a user’s device browser that allows websites to identify users and remember their previous activity.
